Introducing the T33282 Premium No. 4 Smoothing Plane
The No. 4 smoothing plane is recognized for its versatility and reliability in smoothing and finishing flat surfaces for over a century. As part of the Stanley numbering system, smoothing planes are known for their shorter length.
With dimensions of 10" in length and 2" in width, the No. 4 is suitable for various tasks, including smoothing rough lumber, truing edges, and removing imperfections in finished wood. The wider the plane, the more effort is needed to push the blade through the material due to increased blade engagement.
Constructed from accurately machined graded ductile cast-iron, the body and frog, along with fully ground sides and sole, ensure durability. The frog adjustment allows for adjusting the set from coarse to extremely fine. A precise fit between the frog and body ensures stability, providing a solid surface for the cutting iron.
The mechanism allows for advancing the cutting iron to achieve a nearly "zero" mouth opening, enabling fine shavings even on challenging woods. The blade is made from high carbon steel, hardened and tempered to 60-62 Rockwell C, and precision ground to 3mm thick. The single-piece design of the cap iron offers rigid clamping.
Crafted with quality materials, the T33282 features stainless steel frog locating pins and screws, a shaped, sanded, and sealed hardwood knob and handle, and a polished brass lever cap, screws, and adjusting wheel.
The T33282 Premium No. 4 Smoothing Plane is recommended for woodworkers seeking a professional finish on their projects, regardless of experience level. It comes with a 1-year warranty covering parts and ensuring freedom from factory defects.
