Making Live edge, 'Black Walnut' cutting boards

These were the first cutting boards I ever made. Not sure what people made of the live edge concept back then but I thought they were cool. This example was made from Black Walnut harvested from a sustainably managed forest. I made a finish for them out of 100% natural beeswax and Jojoba oil. Super easy... just melt the beeswax in a double boiler on a stovetop and add the Jojoba oil. Let it cool back to room temperature and there you have it. Walking around a large chain store one day I casually whispered to my wife, "I could make that"...A comment she was apparently fed up of hearing (who knew).This time it seems she's going to make me prove it, so we took a couple of extra packages home with us that day.In a feeble attempt to prove a point, I decided to play around with our new book shelves and; well this is what became of them.
